An
opportunity to study developing world health at a world-renowned
centre in rural India and learn how communities can be empowered
to change.
For five years, the Australian International Health Institute
(University of Melbourne) in partnership with the Jamkhed Comprehensive
Rural Health Project run two three-week courses at the Jamkhed Institute
in Maharashtra State of India.
The courses are designed for medical, allied health, social work,
nursing or development studies students and anyone who is keen to
learn about health in resource poor settings. It forms an ideal
base for an elective term.
Learn about the principles and practice of community-based primary
health care at a program that is an international model, from the
staff and villagers who pioneered this transforming experience,
and transform yourself and your understanding of health care.
Comprehensive Community-Based Primary Health Care (CBPHC) is a
value-based approach that empowers communities to assess and analyze
their own problems and develop solutions. CBPHC is an integration
of all sectors of society, especially the poor and marginalized
leading to a rise in the status of women and community mobilization
of resources to address the root causes of health problems and to
improve the well being of the whole community.

AIHI plan to offer two courses again in Nov/Dec 2008 and in January 2009. Exact dates to be announced.
